Theme II:    Virtual Model-Assisted Machining Monitoring and Control
(Theme Leader: René Mayer, École Polytechnique)

Contribution to Common Objectives

The Theme will aim for significant productivity and quality performance enhancements. Productivity is largely limited by not using a machine at its full potential due safety margins that are required to cater for unpredictable changes during operations.

The Theme will also aim to ensure part conformity to drawing tolerances, through a combination of on-line part metrology and machine tool metrology. Part metrology provides immediate feedback to the process for real-time correction, while machine metrology certifies the toolpath accuracy.
