Purpose of the Job
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is responsible in the industrialization of new projects for the definition of the machining process: number of operations, setup and definition of features to be machined within every operation (together with Fixture design & NC-Programmer). The ME selects the tools using the technical tool data base and determines the cutting strategy and cutting conditions (Operation Validation). The ME defines the needs for probing, performs a risks analysis of the defined process with preventive actions and follows up the budget time per operation. He/she validates the program supplied by the NC-programmer, follows-up the tests on the first parts at the machine and establishes the necessary feedback. The ME analyses incidents and quality issues, defines corrective actions for different people of project team  (Fixture design, Programming, Tooling, Production).

Dimensions

  • The ME has no hierarchical responsibility
  • During the project (assigned to the ME by the IM), the ME reports the progress of his/her tasks to the Project Leader.
  • In case of organisational problems (conflicts between several projects) or other problems, the ME reports to IM.

Accountabilities
The ME is responsible for following tasks in the industrialization of new projects:

  • Definition of machining process: number of operations, clamping mode for all different operations (definition of tooling points) and definition of features to be machined within every operation (together with Fixture design & NC-programmer).
  • Definition of needs for probing.
  • Risks analysis of the defined process with preventive actions.
  • Selection of tools from the TDM database and/or new tools in cooperation with cutting tool suppliers and definition of the strategy and cutting conditions in accordance with the technical database. In case of new cutting tools the ME must test and validate the tool with a test report sheet showing technical and economical validity
  • Validation of the ControlCard (= check sheet for part quality after each operation) defined by the programmer.
  • Analyze incidents and quality problems, define corrective actions for different people of project team  (Fixture design, Programming, Tooling, Production).
  • Follow-up of tests at the machine to validate the chosen process and feedback to optimize the process (Method, Programming, Fixture design,…).

Profile Know How and Experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering – or equal by experience
  • Knowledge of Industrial Development : Milling techniques, CNC machines, cutting tools, hard metal machining
  • Language (written/spoken): English
  • IT knowledge: CATIA V5 (consulting) & Vericut (Cgtech) is +, Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Programming Skills and SPC are a +
