Position title: Software Engineer, Control Systems and Automation Group
Location: Watkins, CO USA
Job Purpose: This role is responsible for the development of new software within a research environment and applicable to the manufacturing and delivery of bulk & packaged explosives and their precursors. The Software Engineer is involved in all phases of the software development life cycle from inception of a project through completion and delivery to the end users.
The role reports to the Lead Software Engineer and forms an integral part of the overall Manufacturing & Delivery Systems Research Program. This role interacts globally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Job Duties:
- Identify improvement opportunities in existing manufacturing and construction processes via the use of new controls or software technologies
- Participate in the controls and software design, development and testing of innovative manufacturing and delivery systems
- Ensure designs and novel technologies are robust through the use of appropriate verification & validation processes
Education and Experience:
- Computer Science/Software Engineering or similar, Bachelors or higher qualification.
- 1-3 years relevant industrial experience.
Skills:
- Solid foundation in Software Architecture, Software Development Process, Requirements Management, Object-Oriented Design and Programming
- Absolutely must have a willingness and aptitude to learn new technologies, languages and methodologies – LabView, Codesys/PLC programming, model simulation, etc.
- Real-time embedded programming, including use of operating systems such as VxWorks or Linux
- IP network programming, including protocol design and analysis
- Peripheral interconnect technologies such as RS232, CAN, Modbus, or Profibus a plus
- Implementing rich user interfaces for microdevices or industrial applications a plus
- Professional experience with robotics or factory automation a plus
- Experience with a quality standard such as DO 178B a plus
Dimensions:
- International travel up to 30%.
- Infrequent field work that may require visits to underground and surface mines.
No direct reports, but some management of external contractors.
